James “Jim” Stroin, one of the last surviving WWII Veterans, beloved father, uncle and grandfather passed away at 92 years old on Monday, October 9th, 2017 after a 15 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was in the loving presence of his son Jeff and daughter in law Teresa in San Ramon, California.
Born and raised in Carteret NJ, Jim then attended and graduated Linden High School. He is predeceased by his wife Helen, his sister Eleanor, and son Gary. They had three children, Gary, who passed away in 1983, son, Jeff and daughter Debbie. He is also survived by his sister Irene, a niece, Daria, nephews Michael, David and grandchildren, Sarah and Melissa.
Jim served in WW II as a navigator in the Army Air Force which he enlisted in before graduating Linden High School. He returned to college after serving his country and got his degree at NYU on the GI Bill which he was extremely proud of. He then married Helen who he met at the Russian Orthodox social group in Elizabeth NJ and started his sales career. They were married for 58 years. Jim retired from his own company which was a chemical and waste disposal business in Edgewater NJ. He loved to travel and spent many years exploring the world with his wife Helen.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 18th at 10AM at the St. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox church located at 158 Stiles Street, Elizabeth, NJ.
