Obituary for Anna Galante

Anna Galante
Anna M. Galante, 87, of Westfield, New Jersey, wife of the late Anthony C. Galante, passed peacefully on October 11, 2017 at home. Anne was born on December 11, 1929 in Newark, NJ and was the youngest child of Daniel Catena and Rose (Cushion) Catena.
After growing up in the Ironbound and Vailsburg sections of Newark, Anne went to nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital and later received her BS in Nursing from Jersey City State College. She worked as a public health nurse in Newark. After taking time to raise her daughter, make amazing meatballs for the family pizza business and be a Girl Scout leader, Anne returned to school nursing at Chancellor Ave and Grove St Elementary Schools and Irvington High School.

She also lived in Irvington, Sayreville and Westfield, all where she had wonderful memories with family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her most delicious cookies, devotion to the Giants (and totally despising the Cowboys), playing cards and being the loudest cheerleader at all of her grandchildrens’ events. She will be remembered for her love, devotion and generosity to her family and friends. Most importantly, she was everyone’s Grandma.

Mrs. Galante leaves behind her daughter, Rosemarie Hughes, her son-in-law Jim Hughes and two grandchildren, Maresa Hughes and Michael Hughes. Anne was predeceased by her brother Patrick Catena and sister-in-law Lucille (Codella) Catena and leaves behind her nieces Mary Rose Catena and Patricia (Catena) Petro and her nephew, Jim Petro.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home located on 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey between the hours of 4-8 on October 13, 2017.
