Life Story for Robert Green
Robert “Bob” A. Green
Bob Green, 74, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 28th, 2017 in Charleston, SC. Born in Elizabeth, NJ to Martin Sr. and Dorothy Green, Robert has been a life-long resident of Westfield. Mr. Green was an active member of the Westfield Volunteer Fireman between July 1961 and December 1998. Mr. Green enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard in March of 1964, and during his nearly 40-year career, he rose through the ranks to Master Sergeant and eventually to Chief Warrant Officer 5. His military positions assigned him in Plainfield, West Orange, and Fort Dix. Bob’s military decorations were many, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and National Defense Medal. He played a major role in establishing communications during the attack and recovery at ground zero in New York during and after the events of September 11th, 2001. He went on to work 13 more years at ESP Corp. in Eatontown, assisting the Army with the world wide fieldling of the Multiple Subscriber System. While there and in his retirement to follow, Bob and Joan traveled the world.
Mr. Robert Green was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Joan Mucksavage Green; by his brothers Martin J. Green Jr. and his wife Patricia and Richard P. Green and wife LuAnn; by his sister, Catherine Green; and by a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7PM at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30AM at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
