Life Story for
Marcelle E. McKeon (nee Corris) a 61-year resident of Westfield and a 61-year parishioner at Holy Trinity Parish died on January 12, 2018 at Center For Hope in Scotch Plains, NJ. Born in Elizabeth,NJ to Augustine A. and Eva Corris, she attended schools in Elizabeth, graduating from Thomas A Edison Vocational & Technical School with a focus on sewing. Upon graduation she was employed by Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan, NY.
In 1950, she married James C. McKeon, Sr and over the next 20 years had eight children. Both Marcelle and Jim were very involved in Holy Trinity Parish beginning with the Parents’ Guild for the grammar and high schools. Marcelle remained active in the Altar Rosary Society and Senior Social Group. She made baptismal robes, counted money, and washed altar linens. Marcelle was also active with AARP and worked at the election polls for more than 40 years.
In addition to raising her family, Marcelle had a dress making business for most of her life and was employed by many Westfield shops as the alteration expert. In 1979, she began her employment with Hahnes Department store in Westfield and later with Lord & Taylor for a total of 18 years. Upon retirement, she began her Creative Collectibles business and made clothes for the American Girl doll.
Marcelle is predeceased by her husband of 58-years, James C.; her daughter, Elaine McKeon Guempel; her parents; her brother, Edward Corris. She is survived by her children: Eugene (Sandra); John; Nancy (David) Hall; Judy (Robert) Zoller; James, Jr (Libby); Amy Poirier; Jay (Lorraine); 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Trudy Morris; and, her brother Raymond.
Visitation will be at 9 AM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Westfield Immediately followed at 10 AM by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Iselin, NJ.
