Edward J. Anthony, age 60, of Westfield, New Jersey passed away at Overlook Hospital on June 18, 2018 after a long struggle to recover following spinal surgery in January 2018. He was surrounded by his immediate family and went peacefully on to his next journey.
Edward was born on October 10, 1957 in Bronx, NY. His parents, Jerome Anthony and Rita Anthony (née Boerner), and his brother, Jerry Anthony, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Sharon Batson, and by his two beloved children, Taylor Anthony and Luke Anthony. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Anthony Morgan, and his brother-in-law, Robert Morgan.
Edward attended Cardinal Spellman High School and Fordham University, both in Bronx, NY. Edward was also a graduate of New York Law School, where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree.
Ed was beloved by so many, from his high school days to his time as a stellar member of the student run WFUV radio station at Fordham, where he served as both a DJ and as Program Director.
He was also a fierce and fearless trial attorney, cutting his teeth at the New York City Law Department, working on many high-profile cases there and at many private law firms. In 1997, Ed set up his own legal practice where he continued to enjoy much success.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He spent countless hours playing sports with Taylor and Luke, and he was an unofficial mentor to Luke’s many ice hockey teams. Ed was an avid New York Yankees and New York Rangers fan. The Blue Seats at MSG will miss his joyous presence.
Ed had a quick wit, a generous heart, and an indomitable spirit in all that he did. There is a huge hole in the Universe with his passing.
There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Ed’s life on Saturday, June 30 from 12 PM until 3 PM at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ 07090. A priest will say a blessing, and then, family and friends are invited to contribute memories of Ed. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ed’s name to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
