Elizabeth P. Knodel passed away on Wednesday February 28th, 2018. She was 88 years old.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Avenue, Mountainside, NJ 07092. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday March 5 at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, NJ 07090. Interment will follow in St. Teresa Cemetery, 136 Passaic Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901.
Born at home in Union, NJ to William and Mary (McGrath) Conway in 1929, Pat lived in Old Bridge, NJ and Union, NJ before moving to Mountainside 55 years ago.
She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ, and Caldwell College, Caldwell, NJ. Pat majored in Biology and Education, and taught elementary education in Irvington, NJ and Mountainside, NJ. She was a daily communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes, taught Sunday school for 25 years, served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister, as an adorer in the Adoration Chapel, and on the Board of the Rosary.
Pat was a member of the Mountainside Board of Education for 29 years. She also was a member of the Mountainside Women’s Club and served as their President for two years. She also volunteered at Overlook Hospital.
She loved to travel, enjoyed reading and her weekly bridge and poker card groups.
Pat was predeceased by her loving husband, John P. Knodel in 1993. She is survived by her children Mary, John (Jennifer), Joseph (Maureen), Liz Gordon (Craig), James, Patrick, Paul and William, and her sister Kathleen O’Neill. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Bridget, Patricia and Caroline Knodel, Mary Elizabeth (Meg) Gordon, and Laura and Sean Knodel.
She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Remus and Joan Fisher.
