Benniey J. Alimonti, 88 of Garwood, NJ and more recently of Hudson, NY, passed away peacefully on Wed. January 2, 2019 . Benniey was born and raised in Garwood on March 27th, 1930 to Nazzarino and Margaret (DeMarco) Alimonti. He was one of four siblings including, Angelo, Joe and Carl.
Benniey is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Alimonti (nee Yarusi), 87. His large family will miss him dearly sons, Benjamin and wife
Joyce, Richard and wife Kelly, Kenneth and wife Rhonda: daughters Lynn and predeceased husband Nick, Kathy and her husband Ronald.
Ben was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Ron, Justin and wife Kelsey, Kristen and husband Ryan, Christopher and wife Emily and Kimberly and husband Mitch plus 3 great grandchildren,
Ashley, Joseph and Violet.
As a loader and gunner for 1 year and 9 months, Benniey served in the Korean War(1951) before transferring to the USAR for 8 years. After service Benniey worked 17 years in the parts dept. at Foley Machinery Co., Piscataway, NJ. While doing so he served in Garwood as a Special Police Officer (65-73) and went on to being Fire Commissioner (73). As well as becoming Police Commissioner (74-75). While serving as a councilman, he became council President (76).
After leaving Foley Machinery, Benniey worked for Celanese Plastic Division in Summit, NJ for another 10 years. Benniey enjoyed the country of upstate New York and being on his tractor cutting the fields. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield on Sunday from 2-6PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10AM at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
